With a factory GVM of 3,280kg and a kerb weight of 2,630kg*, you can only legally carry 730kg before you're over your weight limit. If you consider just passengers, a few accessories - a small fridge, a rear drawer) and a van, you're pretty quickly over your 730kg carrying capacity. If you were to properly equip your 300 series with a bull bar, roof-rack, long-range tank, then you'll certainly need a GVM upgrade. Completing the GVM upgrade ensures you have the necessary suspension setup to carry the added weight, along with the compliance to do so legally.
